Description: Nicknamed the “Earthquake Bomb,” and Ten-Ton Tessie the Grand Slam weighed about 22,000 pounds (10 metric tons), making it the heaviest conventional bomb used in the war. Instead of exploding on the surface, it was designed to penetrate deep underground or into reinforced concrete before detonating. This produced shockwaves that could shatter foundations and cause structures to collapse—hence the “earthquake” effect.
